A local-first "AI colleague" desktop workspace: provides independent workspaces and sessions for agents such as Codex, Claude Code, Grok, OpenCode, Gemini, Cursor, and Cline, featuring a task queue, file transfer, a built-in browser, and inter-agent messaging.
Stars 2455 (+777 / 24h)
Reasons
- Each agent is a persistent session with its own model, context monitoring, and automatic compression; the message queue supports pausing, resuming, and canceling, with no data loss after crashes
- Each task in a channel has a single owner, allowing for explicit delegation, stopping, and reassignment; agents can open and control the built-in browser, with optional computer control (cua-driver)
- Supports custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints and ACP agents, capable of detecting local Ollama and LM Studio instances; can also run persistently on headless Linux servers or within Docker
Usage
- Download the macOS dmg, Windows exe, or Linux AppImage from GitHub Releases; Ubuntu 23.10+ / Debian 13 requires installing the AppArmor configuration provided in the repository first
- On the setup page, click Download for each agent to let OpenBot download and pin the corresponding CLI, or use your already installed CLI
Risks
- Author warning: In the development preview, agents run with danger-full-access and without step-by-step confirmation, allowing them to read/write files, execute commands, and access the network; only assign trusted tasks and ensure backups are made
- The license is PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0, which the author states is "not free software"; commercial use requires purchasing a separate license
