A programmatic video engine for agents: Write TypeScript videos using Remotion's API, CSS, SVG, Canvas 2D, WebGL shaders, and Web Audio. Node executes the code, while a Rust GPU compositor renders frame by frame, eliminating the need for Chrome during rendering. Existing Remotion and HyperFrames projects can be rendered as-is.

Reasons
- The author claims the short film at the beginning of the README is 1184 frames at 1080p with audio, rendered in 26 seconds on a laptop; all example timings were taken on an Apple M4 with --concurrency 4, using the median of three runs
- kinetograph studio opens a local editor: click or box-select layers in the preview, then tell the coding agent what to change. The agent receives the selection, source code location, and screenshot (via ACP, with presets for Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini; the author has currently only tested Claude Code) and asks for confirmation before modifying files
- Every command supports --json output.
npx kinetograph mcpexposes the same commands as an MCP server, including agent skills. 0.2.5 added motion tracking, video frames into canvas, Web Animations API, and more
Usage
- Render HTML pages directly:
npx kinetograph render index.html -o out.mp4. GSAP timelines registered towindow.__timelineswill be seeked frame by frame - TSX projects require Node 22+: run
npm ci, thennpm run build, followed bynpx kinetograph render / still / inspect. Building from source requires Rust stable and FFmpeg development libraries
Risks
- Beta 0.2.5: The API is subject to change, some features are missing, and known issues are listed on the project website
- The license is PolyForm Small Business 1.0.0: Free for individuals, non-profits, and companies with fewer than 100 employees and revenue under $1000,000. Larger companies must purchase a commercial license. The repository was created on 10 23
